Flat Roofing Systems

  • (SBS) Modified Bitumen Roofing

Modified bitumen roofing is a single-ply membrane roofing system that is composed of asphalt and polymer modifiers. These modifiers enhance the properties of traditional bitumen, making the material more flexible, durable, and weather-resistant. The membrane typically consists of a reinforcement layer, usually made from fiberglass or polyester, which is coated with a layer of modified bitumen that allows it to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations and has increased resistance to UV radiation, making it suitable for various environmental conditions.

  • (BUR) Modified Built-Up Roofing

Built-up roofing is a type of system commonly used for either flat or low-slope roofs. It consists of multiple layers of roofing felt or other materials, which are secured together with bitumen, typically asphalt or tar. The layers are built up by applying alternating sheets of felt and hot bitumen, creating a solid and durable membrane. The primary components include the base sheet, insulation, multiple layers of felt, and a top surface that can be gravel or a reflective coating. This allows for effective waterproofing, providing excellent durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions.

  • Single Ply Roofing

Single Ply roofing consists of a single layer of flexible membrane, typically made from synthetic materials. The most common materials used are thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These membranes are designed to be durable, weather resistant, and energy-efficient, making them suitable for a variety of building applications.
